Shamrocks even season series
The Lakers were home to face the Victoria Shamrocks on Friday night. This was the second game in the three-game regular season series and the first in Burnaby turf.
The home team was coming off two frustrating losses on the road, first to Nanaimo on Sunday and second to New Westminster the night before. The Shamrocks were coming in hot, on a six-game win streak. They still trailed the Lakers in the standings, but a win in The Swamp would bring them into a tie for first place in the league.
The visitors got off to a hot start obtaining a 5-1 lead by the 17-minute mark in the first period. The Lakers were able to put a dent in the gap during the final few minutes and closed out the period down 5-3. Dean Fairall scores the first two goals with Robert Church chipping in the third.
The Lakers were unable to answer the onslaught of Shamrocks scoring in the second period and were limited to just two goals of their own, from Tyler Digby and Brandon Clelland. The score was 11-5 after 40 minutes.
The third period offered another dismal performance from the Lakers who were outscored 3-1 over twenty minutes. The Lakers final goal of the game was from Digby.
Shots were 50-43 in the Lakers' favour.
Goaltending duties were split in this game with Eric Penney getting the start and Zak Boychuk making his first appearance for the team this season.
