Not the way to start an important week
The Burnaby Lakers needed a good start in their Western Lacrosse Association season series with the Nananimo Timbermen and failed to get it, falling 9-7 to the Vancouver Island club at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Tuesday.
T-Men goalie Pete Dubenski had the home team's number, stopping 44 Laker shots for the win. Six Nations sniper Ryan Lee sparked a five-goal final period for Nanaimo, scoring a hat trick, including an empty netter.
Dane Stevens led Burnaby with a goal and three assists, while Eli McLaughlin also helped out on four Laker scores.
Robert Church and Scott Jones tallied a pair of goals apiece in the club's fifth loss of the season.
This Friday, Burnaby hosts the New Westminster Salmonbellies in their season-series decider in the showcase match for the Jack Crosby All-Star Novice tournament at the Copeland centre. Game time is 7:45 p.m.
