Lakers vault into third place for now
The Burnaby Lakers evened their Western Lacrosse Association season series with a 13-9 victory over the Timbermen in Nanaimo on Sunday.

Photo by Garrett James[/caption]First star Robert Church led the way with five goals, including the game-winner with his fourth tally of the game early in the third period. Church leads the Lakers in goal scoring with 22 tallies to date.
Burnaby led from start to finish but it took third star Eli McLaughlin with one goal and a single assist to spark an unanswered three-goal finish in the final six minutes of play. McLaughlin had his best outing of the season for the Green and White with a six-point effort, including a hat trick.
Scott Jones started the Lakers off on the right foot with two goals in the opening five minutes of the contest, including the game-opening tally at the one-minute mark. Jones finished the game with a total of five points. Dane Stevens also garnered five points in the win.
 Zac Boychuk got his sixth victory in goal for the Lakers, stopping 35 Timbermen shots.
The win vaulted the Lakers into a tie for third place with Maple Ridge and one point ahead of fourth-place Coquitlam.
Burnaby is on the road again this Wednesday for a meeting with the last-place Langley Thunder, a surprise 10-8 winner over the Burrards on Saturday.
Next home game for Burnaby is Friday, July 22 against the Victoria Shamrocks.
