Lakers tie Fishmen at Queen's Park
In a game with very nearly 130 shots on goal, it was somewhat fitting the scoreline at Queen's Park Arena should end up as a draw.
This Western Lacrosse Association season has so far been the year of the goalies and Thursday's 7-7 tie between the visiting Burnaby Lakers and the New Westminster Salmonbellies was no exception.
Second star Zac Boychuk continued his torrid goalkeeping in the Burnaby net stopping 64 shots, while Alexis Buque was equally steady handling a total of 58 Laker shots.
Burnaby held the lead for most of the first two periods, but New West took advantage of a pair of power-play opportunities and led 6-5 midway through the final frame.
Robert Church, who led all scorers with two goals and three assists, sent the game into overtime with Boychuk on the bench for an extra attacker and less than two minutes remaining on the clock.
Jackson Decker, with an unassisted goal on transition, and Justin Goodwin, for the home team, scored in the ten-minute overtime to earn a single point for both clubs.
