Lakers double Thunder on the road

The Burnaby Lakers kept their collective eyes on a playoff spot, defeating the Langley Thunder 10-5 at the Langley Events Centre on Wednesday.

Jason Jones sparked a six-goal Burnaby finish, tallying an unassisted goal to break a 4-4 tie early in the second period. Jones, who garnered his second first game star of the season, went on to score a hat trick and assist on a fourth Laker marker.

Zac Boychuk earned the third star of the game, shutting out the home team for the final 35 minutes to post his seventh victory of the season. 

Robert Church also garnered four points, including the go-ahead shorthanded goal at 7:18 of the middle period that stood up as the game winner.

Justin Salt also tallied an unassisted shortie about five minutes later in a three-point night to help give the senior A club its second consecutive win.

Dane Stevens and Scott Jones also counted a pair of goals apiece in similar three-point efforts. Eli McLaughlin assisted on three goals.

The victory lifted the Lakers back into third place in the Western Lacrosse Association with the Maple Ridge Burrards, both with 15 points.

Burnaby now has nine days off before hosting the Victoria Shamrocks at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Friday, July 22 at 7 p.m.
