Hip Senior goes western

The Burnaby Lakers are looking for a breakout game against the Maple Ridge Burrards this Friday.

The senior A Lakers are currently 2-1 in the Western Lacrosse Association and coming off an earlier 9-5 victory over the Burrards in Maple Ridge.

But as important as a third victory would be to the Lakers, a win with double-digit scoring might also give a huge confidence boost to a front end that has struggled for the better part of the past two seasons to average more than eight goals a game through the regular season.

So far this season, Burnaby is averaging exactly eight goals per game, including nine in its last two back-to-back wins.

Maple Ridge is coming off a 16-goal outing against Langley last week and is currently tied with Burnaby for second place in the WLA loop.

Friday's second meeting this season between the two clubs at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre this Friday, June 9 could be a season series clincher for the Lakers.

The Burrards are currently unbeaten on the road, while Burnaby has yet to taste defeat at the Copeland centre.

But a victory for Burnaby with a healthy net full of goals would almost certainly set up the Lakers well for next week, when they play away games against winless Langley and Coquitlam.

To this end, the Hip Senior searched his record collection for a country western classic to inspire the Lakers to bigger and better scorelines.
