First meeting vs New West a flurry of scoring
For the second time this season, the Lakers found themselves victorious after a three-on-three overtime battle.
In their first meeting vs the New Westminster Salmonbellies and the highest scoring game of the season so far, the Lakers edges the Bellies out by a single goal that was scored at 3:12 in the extra period.
The game was a back and forth battle from start to finish. Though the Lakers were able to go ahead 2-0 early, the Bellies were able to bounce back quickly and often. For the majority of the game, the Lakers were leading the way in scoring, but were never able to extend the lead past two goals. At first intermission, the score was tied at five. At second intermission, Burnaby led 12-10.
Scoring slowed in the third period with only four goals, three of which belonged to the visitors. The game was tied at thirteen from 13:39 until the end.
The overtime period may have been short, but for everyone in attendance, it felt a lot longer. Both teams were able to get three shots off, but it was rookie Zach Gould's shot from the outside that settled the match. WLA social media caught the game winner perfectly - have a look at it here.
Lakers scoring was done largely by committee with nine different scorers on the night. They were Robert Church with three, Tyler Digby, Scott Jones and Zach Gould with two each, call-up Riley Phillips, Matt Beers, Brandon Clelland, Pearson Willis and Sam Clare with singles.
The final score was 14-13 for the Lakers. The shot count was 54-44 for Burnaby. Eric Penney made 31 saves on the night.
The game's three stars were:
- Robert Church
