Call up junior a top-100 choice for Salmonbellies

There is only one way but up for New Westminster's promising junior A call up Connor Robinson.

The consensus No. 1 draft pick in the upcoming 2018 Western Lacrosse Association draft has been already fuelling his stock in the Mann Cup final and is currently tied for third overall with seven goals in four games to date against the eastern champions Peterborough Lakers.

Robinson's talents should come as little surprise to knowledgeable lacrosse watchers.

The crafty left-hander and three-time B.C. junior scoring champion just completed a memorable five-year junior A career from 2013 to 2017 with numbers that should raise more than a few eyebrows.

The two-time league MVP garnered over 100 points in three separate junior A campaigns, including a career-high 52 goals in 2016 and personal-bests 80 assists and 130 total points this season.

But what is most remarkable is how Robinson's numbers stack up against the best who have ever played the game.

Robinson's 176 regular season goals ties him for 99th place in the nation all-time with another Salmonbellie product Jack Fulton Jr. (1973-77).

But wait, it only gets better for the High Point University senior.

Robinson's 544 combined regular season and playoff points moves him to 71st overall, surpassing that of former Coquitlam Adanac Jeff Wilfong (1985-89).

What's more, Robinson's career 444 points during the regular season over his junior career is the highest number collected by any junior box lacrosse player in the last decade. It ties him for 54th all-time with Oshawa Green Gaels sniper Mike McKee (1977-81).

Robinson is tied for 47th all-time with current Brampton junior Jeff Teat and former WLA star Kyle Goundrey all with 330 assists in their career regular season and playoffs.

But it doesn't stop there.

The three-time B.C. Junior first team all-star moved into seriously elite company when he recorded his 268th regular season helper for New Westminster at the end of the summer season.

With that single assist, Robinson surpassed the great hall of famer Gary Gait (1983-88) and moved one placement ahead of one of the current Peterborough superstars he is currently facing at the Mann Cup – future hall of fame Laker Shawn Evans - who collected 263 career helpers over his 2001-07 junior career.
