Burnaby wins third straight
The Burnaby Lakers handed the New Westminster Salmonbellies their third straight loss at Queen's Park Arena on Thursday.
Burnaby got hat trick games from Dane Stevens and rookie Cam Milligan to pace the Lakers to a 14-9 victory over the 'Bellies.
Stevens led all scorers with seven points, while Milligan posted his second consecutive three-goal outing in just his third game with the Western Lacroose Association Lakers. Four of Milligan's six goals to date have come on the power play.
Newcomer Spencer Bromley got Burnaby off to a quick start, scoring a goal and assisting on two others by teammate Shaun Dhaliwal to put Burnaby up 3-1 in the opening period.
Burnaby and New West exchanged goals for most of the second period before Stevens, with his second of the period, and Tyler Digby tallied less than two minute apart to close the frame with the Lakers leading 9-7.
Burnaby held an 11-8 advantage on Milligan's third of the game late in the session before finally finishing off the Salmonbellies with empty-net counters by Jackson Decker, Eli McLaughlin and Stevens.
Eric Penney turned in another sterling outing for the Lakers, kicking aside 37 shots for his second win of the season.
Penney is currently second in the league with a .857 save percentage, while sporting a sweet 7.01 goals against average.
Burnaby is right back at it tonight (Friday, June 9) at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre to host the Maple Ridge Burrards. Game time is 7:45 p.m.
