Shamrocks not about to change

The Victoria Shamrocks followed three simple steps to success for a second straight night, upending the Burnaby Lakers 13-8 at home on Thursday..

Just like in Game 1 of the Western Lacrosse Association semi-final playoff, Victoria jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and then stayed with the Lakers through the middle period before closing out the matchup in their favour in the final frame to take a two-game lead in the best-of-seven series.

Two of the biggest reasons for Burnaby's 0-2 showing to date are a lack of fire power in the final period and the inability to shut down Shamrock super sniper Rhys Duch.

The Lakers have given up nine unanswered goals in the last 30 minutes of the third period in the past two playoff contests and Duch has been largely responsible for the outcomes, earning back-to-back first stars and garnering a total of 15 points, including eight goals.

Burnaby gets no time to lick its wounds with Game 3 in Victoria tonight.
